But did you know that Netflix's "Stranger Things" was originally called "Montauk," named after the real-life New York town that's at the center of multiple conspiracy theories? Since its debut in 2016, "Stranger Things" has become a phenomenon, spawning millions of dollars in merch, tie-in novels and comics, a stage adaptation, mobile games, a tabletop game, and more. AdvertisementToday, it's possible to visit Camp Hero, which opened to the public as a state park in 2002. I came away from my visit last summer understanding where the Duffer brothers, who created "Stranger Things," got their inspiration. Camp Hero would certainly be on my list of the creepiest places I've visited.

The Biden administration greenlit the seventh large offshore wind project in the United States Tuesday. Danish wind energy developer Ørsted and the utility Eversource plan to build a 924-megawatt project, Sunrise Wind, 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of Montauk, New York. This month, the companies opened the nation's first commercial-scale offshore wind farm. They announced their financial commitment to the Sunrise Wind project when the Interior Department issued its decision. The Biden administration wants enough offshore wind energy to power 10 million homes by 2030.

America's first commercial-scale offshore wind farm is officially open, a long-awaited moment that helps pave the way for a succession of large wind farms. The Biden administration has approved six commercial-scale offshore wind energy projects, and auctioned lease areas for offshore wind for the first time off the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico coasts. Ørsted CEO Mads Nipper called the opening a major milestone that proves large offshore wind farms can be built, both in the United States and in other countries with little or no offshore wind energy currently. The first U.S. offshore wind farm was supposed to be a project off the coast of Massachusetts known as Cape Wind. The nation's second large offshore wind farm, Vineyard Wind, is expected to open later this year off the coast of Massachusetts, too.

In the United States, California continues to have the most solar energy, followed by Texas, Florida, North Carolina, and Arizona. China was one of the few growing markets this year for wind, the Global Wind Energy Council said. Faster permitting and other improvements in key markets such as Germany and India also helped add more wind energy. The top three markets this year are still China, the United States, and Germany for wind energy produced on land, and China, the United Kingdom, and Germany for offshore. The analysts are predicting that the global industry will rebound next year and make nearly 12% more wind energy available worldwide.

The cannabis company Tilray expanded its position in the craft brew industry, completing the acquisition of eight beer brands from Anheuser-Busch that it had announced over the summer. Included in the deal are well known labels like Shock Top, Breckenridge Brewery, Blue Point Brewing Company, 10 Barrel Brewing Company, Redhook Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewing, Square Mile Cider Company, and HiBall Energy. The New York City company also owns SweetWater Brewing Company, Montauk Brewing Company, Alpine Beer Company, and Green Flash Brewing Company. Tilray said that the transaction, which was announced in August, will triple its beer sales volume from four million cases to 12 million. Lately I’ve been hiking the 125-mile-long Paumanok Path in eastern Long Island in sections. I love that it extends uninterrupted from Rocky Point in the west to Montauk Point in the east. Gosman’s Dock boasts sprawling restaurants and retail stores in addition to its wholesale business. That could change soon: Gosman’s Dock is up for sale, priced at $45 million. POINT PLEASANT BEACH, N.J. (AP) — As the U.S. races to build offshore wind power projects, transforming coastlines from Maine to South Carolina, much remains unknown about how the facilities could affect the environment. So far, four offshore wind projects have been approved by the federal government for the U.S. East Coast, according to the American Clean Power Association. The company is a Danish wind power business that will build two of the three offshore projects approved for New Jersey. Numerous others have been proposed, and the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management plans to review at least 16 offshore wind projects by 2025. The federal government has endorsed — but not required — compensation to the fishing industry for negative effects from offshore wind.

When Chelsea Hirschhorn organized a summer gathering in July at her house in Amagansett, N.Y., she made sure to include one party trick: pottery wheels. In addition to a pool with a zip-line, an ice cream truck and a pizza truck, there was a ceramic station with pottery wheels. This summer in the Hamptons, D.J.s aren’t the only ones doing the spinning. A semi-recent fad has taken ahold of the moneyed elite who spend their summer in the coastal destination: clay camp, in which adults and children alike can try out pottery wheels at home and at parties. Ms. Bishop started her clay catering service in the summer of 2021, when people were looking for something creative to do outside — partly because of the Covid-19 pandemic — and the business blew up in popularity this year.

It may seem counterintuitive, but the pandemic was like a brief visit to Shangri-La for Wall Street. For the first time in years, Wall Street has to sing for its supper. A return to the office also means a return to more-classic Wall Street social norms. Wall Street, for all its highfalutin personalities and big paydays, is an apprenticeship system. For Wall Street, the heart of the pandemic was a moment to consider what life would be like at a slower, more-nurturing pace.

Friday’s debut of “No Hard Feelings,” a sex work romcom that doesn’t want to admit to its own subgenre, is very much of our era. Noah Berlatsky Noah BerlatskyThe Jennifer Lawrence vehicle from Sony Pictures revolves around a sex worker who, like the film, doesn’t want to admit what she’s doing. In sex worker romcoms, you’re supposed to be scandalized at the sordidness — but in a fun way. The premise that motors “No Hard Feelings,” a new comedy directed by Gene Stupnitsky, is, if not outright indecent, at least a little crass. Via online advertisement, Laird and Allison, megawealthy Montauk residents, are seeking an attractive woman in her early 20s to deflower their socially awkward Princeton-bound son, Percy. Taking up the offer is Jennifer Lawrence’s Maddie, a lifelong Montauker who’s increasingly resentful of the rich folk taking over her town. She’s 32 and a little too old for the gig, but she’s a knockout — as mentioned, she’s played by Lawrence — and has a canny sales pitch. Assigned to “date date” the puppy-cute but initially highly recessive 19-year-old Percy, she goes after her prey with an aggressiveness that’s initially off-putting to the lad.
